Recently in class, we have talked a lot about the general origination, evolution, and dynamics of the music industry, and music as a mass communication device. Since entering high school, I have grown a strengthening relationship and appreciation for music. I have realized that music is a very powerful influencer of mood and attitude, almost regardless of the situation. After class on Tuesday, I realized how much our generation takes for granted the on-demand, and individualized facet of modern music. I started to think about why music is so powerful, and I came to the conclusion that music gives us a sense of place when we otherwise might feel lonely, because, as conveyed through the lyrics, it lets us know that other people feel that way. To me, the most impactful music is relatable, and can influence my attitude in any circumstance. I have never come to a circumstance that has not been able to be aided or related to with some type of music, whether the purpose of it is to allow an emotion to sink in, or to change it. But whether we take it for granted or not, I certainly can't imagine a world without music; always at my fingertips to gain a sense of place at almost any time during the day.
One of the very first topics we discussed in class was what makes good journalism. More specifically, we talked about the elements and yardsticks, which are guidelines for journalists to follow in order to produce good journalism. One of these guidelines was outlining that for news to be effectively received and understood by an audience, it must be attention holding. Lets face it, not every newsworthy story is interesting. I'll be the first to admit that I would much rather read about a mysterious disappearance than what tax-bill was denied. Thats just part of human nature. My point here is that journalists have a much bigger job than a lot of people realize. It is very common for the most important news to be somewhat boring, and for the not so newsworthy content to be very engaging. This is where good journalism comes in. I am not saying that every story has to keep the reader on the edge of their seat, however, it is a large responsibility of the writer to hold attention long...
